Recipe type: Dessert
Cuisine: Microwave Mug Cake
Serves: 1 to 2 servings
Cake batter:
  • 8 frozen maltesers
  • 3 tablespoons plain flour
  • 2 tablespoons horlicks
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa
  • ¼ teaspoon baking powder
  • 4 tablespoons caster sugar
  • 1 large egg beaten
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon sieved cocoa
  • 1 ½ teaspoons caster sugar
  • 3 tablespoons hot water
You will need:
  • 1 large microwaveable mug greased and a microwaveable plate
  1. Add all the cake batter ingredients to your large mug and whisk until smooth, do not overwork.
  2. Push the frozen maltesers right down into the cake mixture so they are covered.
  3. Sprinkle the cocoa and sugar for the sauce over the top of the cake mixture.
  4. Pour the hot water over the back of a spoon over the cocoa and sugar topping.
  5. Microwave for 90 seconds on high in a 1000 watt microwave until cooked through.
  6. Serve with ice cream and extra maltesers.
You will need a large mug as you only want the cake mixture to half fill the mug.
Place maltesers in the freezer for at least 2 hours before you make your cake.
Make sure you use hot water and not boiling water.
Check the wattage of your microwave, you may need 2 minutes on high in an 800 watt oven.
Remember the cake will continue to cook once you have removed your mug from the microwave and it will be hot.
